Maelstrom

The ‘Fantasy’ genre is an area I have always been drawn into. In painting, it is the one subject which allows my imagination to run riot with colors and themes. In Maelstrom I use shades of blue and purple – and flowing lines – to render a phantasmagoric and dreamlike image.

In this picture, the unicorns have their backs to the viewer. As in my interpretation of ‘The Little Prince’, the viewer and the characters in the painting share a common moment of calm as they look out towards the backdrop of the image – in this case the gathering vortex.
